Grant Wingrove joins Delecta to focus on the Far East Markets

Over the last 22 years Delecta Fruit has shown significant growth and positioned itself as a key player in the South African fruit exporting industry. No doubt, the ability to anticipate and adjust to every changing weather, economic and legislative changes are the name of the exporting game. However, we strongly believe that the careful selection of our team, our producers and our buyers (both local and international) are even more important contributing factors to our growth.

With this in mind, we took another step in the direction of strengthening our team and expanding our client base by adding Grant Wingrove to the Delecta team in June 2019.

Known for his expertise and experience in China, Hong Kong and South East Asian Markets, Grant takes the position of Trade Manager and will be instrumental in expanding our global footprint to the Far East Markets.

We managed to connect with him after a recent trip to Hong Kong, to find out a bit more:

Kalos Farming: Pursuing the good and praiseworthy

Kalos Farming: Pursuing the good and praiseworthy

‘Kalos’: that which is intrinsically “good”; “fair”, “beautiful”, “praiseworthy” and “noble”.

With a name like ‘Kalos’ it is not surprising that Kalos Farming is a successful fifth generation farming operation with an exceptionally rich family heritage. Daniel Goosen and his wife Lilian are currently farming on a part of the original Waboomsrivier farm, on which the picturesque town Prince Alfred’s Hamlet outside of Ceres, was founded upon.

After the sudden death of his father Gerhard in 1991, Daniel took over the reins and has been farming ever since. Over the last 28 years Daniel has developed more production units and also added a pack store with cooling facilities to their offering.

Kalos Farming is one of Delecta Fruit’s many producers in the Ceres area, and they have been marketing and exporting their fruit with us since 2000.

We met up with Daniel last week to find out a bit more:

Rosedale: Three generations of determination

Rosedale: Three generations of determination

Delecta Grower Focus: Rosedale

The journey

Rosedale is a third generation farming operation in Robertson which started in 1952 when the late ‘Oupa’ Hans Britz bought 43 hectares of land to plant vineyards and peaches. His son Jannie Britz joined him in 1973 and added tomatoes to the harvest ‘basket’. Plums (Laetitia and Casselman) followed in 1990, with apricots, citrus and more plum varieties being added not long after. They expanded by building their own packstore.

Eldest son Hannes was the first of the three Britz brothers to join his father on the farm in 2000. With much growth taking place, expansion was on the horizon and 2003 saw Jannie adding a second farm to the family operation – this time in Bonnievale (Bordeaux).
